The 2010 Ossie Awards for student journalism
The annual Ossie Awards, named after journalist Osmar S. White, are organised by the Journalism Education Association of Australia. Senior journalists and editors judge the main award categories. Two categories – the Best Story (Any Medium) Prize and Dr Charles Stuart Prize for Best Student Publication (Any Medium) – are selected from category winners at a special meeting of the JEAA Executive. This year’s winners of Ossie Awards will be announced at the conference dinner at the JEAA Conference in Sydney on November 24-26, 2010.
Winners of the best story and photojournalism categories receive a $200 prize, which is funded by a generous donation by journalist and author Sally A White. The Hunter Institute Response Ability Prize attracts a $200 prize, sponsored by the Hunter Institute of Mental Health. The winner of Best Story (Any Medium) wins an additional $250. Prizes for news, feature and current affairs reports will be awarded to the student(s) who produced the winning entry. Certificates for Best Student Publications will go to institutions and to individual students nominated by the supervising lecturer of the winning institution.
Please note that only institutions with at least two (2) financial JEAA members are eligible to enter the awards. The deadline for entries for the 2010 Ossie Awards is October 8. Late entries will not be accepted.
